The two types of Orange County Interior Plantation Shutters that we offer are Polycore & Lexwood.

Polycore Interior Plantation Shutters

Polycore Interior Plantation Shutters are the world’s only solid synthetic polymer shutter with an internal aluminum core reinforcement in the rails, stiles, and louvers. The aluminum core prevents sagging and allows for a single Polycore panel to reach up to 36” in width under warranty.

In the fabrication process, we screw the rail and stile together with two 3/16” x 3” self-tapping screws in each corner of the panels. This process prevents the panels from racking, thus creating the strongest panels in the world today.

A durable paint finish is baked on to all Polycore Shutters reassuring that they won’t fade, chip, or turn yellow and they never need to be re-painted. They are fire retardant (State Certified), moisture resistant, and great for insulation. Polycore Shutters are easily the best in the world.

Lexwood Interior Plantation Shutters

Lexwood is a premium basswood shutter built with traditional handcraftsmanship combined with the newest technology for a precise design.

All Lexwood Shutters have a durable baked on paint finish. Lexwood Shutters are the most elegant-looking custom wood shutters available that the world has to offer. In addition, standard stains are available as well as custom paints.

Custom Paint Colors

Our Polycore Interior Plantation Shutters are NOT available in Custom Paint Colors.

Lexwood

You can build Lexwood Interior Plantation Shutters in any custom color you desire from pink to blue or black. These shutters can also be ordered as raw basswood if you desire to stain or paint the shutters for that exact match.

Hinge Colors

Hinges for Polycore and Lexwood Shutters are available in various colors. Hinges are the metal mechanisms attached to the vertical stile and they connect the panel to the frame. Hinges allow the shutter panels to open and close with the simplest touch.

Frame Options

Polycore and Lexwood Shutters offer similar frames. The shutter frame is used to frame the shutter panels while simultaneously offering a decorative casing to the window opening. Our frames provide an even, square mounting structure for the panels and can help compensate for an out-of-square opening window or door.

Louver Sizes

Polycore and Lexwood Shutters are available in 2.5”, 3.5” and 4.5” louvers. The Louvers on an Interior Plantation Shutter are the panel components that rotate for control over the light and view. Something to keep in mind is that the larger the louver size the more depth we need on the backside of the shutter for the louvers to operate freely.

All Together

Panel Configurations

Polycore and Lexwood Shutters are available in numerous panel configurations depending on the height and the width of each opening. The most common configurations can be found below.

• Standard: One panel hinged on the left and/or one panel hinged on the right.
• Bi-Fold: Two panels hinged together that fold up next to one another. Our bi-folds are available in 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 or 16 panels!
• Bypass: Two panels mounted on an overhead track system that slide past one another. Our bypass panels are available in as many panel configurations that your heart desires.

Tilt Rod or Clearview

Polycore and Lexwood Shutters are available with a Tilt Rod or Clearview option.

A Tilt Rod comes standard on all Interior Plantation Shutters. The Tilt Rod is the center vertical bar on a panel connected to and controlling the movement of the louvers. The Tilt Rod opens and closes the louvers. This is the most common type of shutters.

For an additional charge, the Clearview option refers to an aluminum rod along the back of the shutter panel that connects and coordinates the movement of all of the louvers. This design alleviates the need for a front vertical tilt rod giving the shutters a cleaner look with less components.

Divider Rail, Split Tilt Rod, or Split Clearview

Polycore and Lexwood shutters are available with a Divider Rail, Split Tilt Rod, or Split Clearview option at no additional charge. The benefit with any of these options is that they allow the louvers in the upper section to move independently from those in the lower section.

A Divider Rail is placed between the top and bottom rail for design and/or structural support when needed. The Divider Rail option can be positioned at almost any spot on the shutter panel.

A Split Tilt Rod is an alternative to the divider rail. Instead of having a visible divider rail, the tilt rod can be cut into two separate rods. This Split Tilt Rod option can be positioned at almost any spot desired on the shutter panel and is the most common type of split.

A Split Clearview is another alternative to the divider rail. Instead of having a visible divider rail, the aluminum rod on the back of the panel can be cut into two separate rods. This Split Clearview option can be positioned at almost any spot desired on the shutter panel.

Vertical T-Post

Polycore and Lexwood shutters are available with a Vertical T-Post. A Vertical T-Post is inserted into a shutter frame to separate the individual panels and add structural support. A Vertical T-Post is required once a shutter exceeds a certain width, but it is also used for decorative purposes to cover window mullions. A 1” wide Vertical T-Post is pictured below at the center of the opening. If your windows wider than 72” already have a Vertical T-Post it is almost a guarantee that our T-Post will line up exactly with what you currently have on your windows for the perfect design.

Specialty Shapes

Polycore and Lexwood shutters are available in numerous specialty shapes. A taste of some of the Specialty Shapes are pictured below.

Fixed Door Handle Cut-Outs

Polycore and Lexwood shutters are available with any of the handle cut-out options below. A handle cut-out is needed when a door handle (lever) protrudes into the glass section of the door that prevents our shutter frame from connecting from the bottom frame to the top frame in one straight line.

No Handle Cut-Out: If the handles will not interfere with the shutter panels.

Half-Circle Cut-Out: The #2 choice because the half-circle cut-out still requires a rectangular border.

Rectangle Cut-Out: The #1 choice when it comes to simplicity and a clean look.

Track System

Polycore and Lexwood shutters use a track for Bi-Fold and Bypass Track System Interior Shutters as pictured below.

• Bi-Fold Track System: When two or more panels are hinged together to fold up adjacent to one another with the help over an overhead track.
• Bypass Track System: When two or more panels on an overhead track slide past each other.
