What is a StowAway Retractable Screen Door?

The StowAway Retractable Screen Door is your modern alternative to a traditional swinging or sliding screen that is attached to the exterior or interior of a door or window frame. Old, traditional screens are being upgraded to and replaced with Retractable Screen Doors regularly.

A Retractable Screen Door consists of a housing, pull bar, tracks, sill adapter, mold, and handles. The entire screen system retracts into its protective housing canister for storage when not in use. A 4lb spring enabling the screen to retract by itself when released from the magnet is installed in every Retractable Screen Door. The rate at which the screen accelerates back into the housing canister is controlled by either a Fast Close pin or Slow Close Hydraulic Speed Reducer.

One side of the screen mesh is attached to a roller tube mounted within the housing component. The roller tube spins internally with the help of the spring and close devices mounted inside the roller tube at opposite ends. The other end of the screen mesh is secured to the pull bar with a seamless v-clip design. This pull bar has nylon end caps that wrap around the top and bottom tracks for a smooth operation.

Tracks allow the pull bar to freely slide back and forth within the opening. Unlike on a traditional screen door, in order for a Retractable Screen Door to retract, the mesh is not attached at the top and bottom of the opening. The mesh is fabricated to sit within the top and bottom track for superior protection. Sill adapters and moldings help create the perfect frame for your Retractable Screen Door or Window installation. While in use, the pull bar is held in place by a magnet installed on the side opposite the housing.

Where can I install a StowAway Retractable Screen Door?

Retractable Screen Doors can be installed on any Double Door, Single Door, Sliding Door, Window, Dutch Door and Arched Door. That is correct. Any opening.

Does the StowAway Retractable Screen Door Slam Back?

No. A slow close hydraulic speed reducer is an available option to slow down the StowAway Retractable Screen Door as it retracts back into the housing. You make the choice, fast or slow!

What size opening will a StowAway Retractable Screen Door accommodate?

StowAway Retractable Screen Doors are custom built to fit any opening and can accommodate heights up to 108″. A Single Door Retractable Screen can accommodate widths up to 72″, and a Double Door Retractable Screen can accommodate widths up to 144″.

What Frame Colors are available?

StowAway Retractable Screen Doors are available in 12 powder coated colors, 1 mill color (raw aluminum), 3 anodized colors, and 3 wood veneer finishes for a total of 19 colors.

• 13-Standard Colors : Architectural Bronze, Black, Brown, Desert Tan, Grey, Hunter Green, Ivy Green, Linen, Mahogany Brown, Mill, Off White, Sandalwood and White.
• 3-Anodized Colors (Upgraded Feature) : Black Anodized, Clear Anodized and Gold Anodized. The nylon end caps and magnets must be selected from the 12 standard nylon colors.
• 3-Wood Veneer Colors (Upgraded Feature): Mahogany, Oak and Pine. The nylon end caps, handles and magnets must be selected from the 12 standard nylon colors.

Are Custom Frame Colors available?

Yes. StowAway Retractable Screen Doors are available in Tiger Drylac custom powder coated colors. You can select your aluminum housing, pull bar, tracks, sill adapter, mold, and handles from one of the custom colors to compliment your home. The nylon end caps and magnets must be selected from the 12 standard nylon colors.

What Screen Mesh Options are available?

StowAway Retractable Screen Doors come standard with a stiffened Black or Grey Fiberglass Mesh. Solar No-see-um, Solar Medium, Solar Maximum and Polyester Pet are also available for an upcharge.

Does the Screen Mesh have a Visible Heat Seal Along The Pull Bar?

No. StowAway Retractable Screen Doors do not have a visible heat seal along the pull bar. StowAway is the only brand that uses a V-Clip design to completely eliminate the unpleasant image of a black heat seal line along the pull bar.

What is a Sill Adapter?

Sill Adapters aesthetically complete a Retractable Screen Door installation and help prevent potential damage to the bottom track. The sill adapter provides a seamless blending of the new screen with your existing threshold and frame. In many cases, the sill adapter is necessary for proper screen operation and support. Our StowAway Retractable Screen Doors come standard with a sill adapter.

Are Retractable Screen Door Stickers available for the Mesh?

Yes. One sheet includes four stickers. We suggest placing one Palm Tree sticker on one side of the mesh and the mirror image of that sticker on the other side of the mesh at eye level for adults, children, and pets. Once installed our screens are virtually invisible. Placing stickers on the screen will help you remember that the screen is in use.

Can StowAway Retractable Screen Doors be Locked?

Yes. Position holders and chrome latches are available; however, Retractable Screen Doors are used for ventilation, bug control, and sun reduction. They are not meant to be used for security.

Can I use a Retractable Screen Door as a Security Screen?

No. Retractable Screen Doors are meant for ventilation, bug control, and sun reduction only. They are not meant to protect your home from intruders or to keep kids or pets inside or outside. Your Retractable Screen Door is not meant to be used as a security screen. Classic is not to be held liable in any capacity for any harm done to you, your property, and/or your family if you attempt to use the StowAway Retractable Screen for security.

How do I keep my Pets off the Screen Mesh?

An optional feature called a Plexi-Glass Pet Guard can be custom-built and installed to prevent screen damage from pets. A u-channel is installed on each side of the opening to create a path for the piece of Plexi-Glass.

Once the Retractable Screen Door is in the operating position, the Plexi-Glass can be inserted into the u-channels to create the perfect pet barrier.

What is the Lead Time for a StowAway Retractable Screen Door?

Retractable Screen Doors come with a standard lead time of 1-2 weeks. Additional lead time is required for custom powder coated colors.
